Towards Sustainability

Human & Social

BSCA is part of the certification programme for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined and promoted by the United Nations.

This commitment makes the airport the first Walloon company to become involved.

In addition to the "classic" environmental considerations, these 17 objectives include human notions such as well-being at work, poverty and equality, which are major concerns in the overall management of the airport's activities.

In order to achieve these objectives, concrete actions are and/or will be undertaken, such as

1. No poverty, peace, justice and efficient institutions: Solidarity action following the floods in the summer of 2021, food donations to the association Faim et Froid, finalisation of an Environmental Management System (EMS), etc.

2. Good Health & Well-being:

  • Annual analysis of psychosocial risks and monitoring of the absenteeism rate (less than 3%).
  • Flu vaccine offered every year.
  • Protective measures put in place against Covid.
  • Informative brochures, sports equipment, medical accessories (as a follow-up to medical visits).
  • Use of "eco-labelled" products and safety training on the use of dangerous products. 24 work accidents recorded in 2021 (frequency rate in 2021 = 39.01 // frequency rate in 2022 = 35.52). The severity level fell from 1.69 in 2021 to 1.16 in 2022.

3. Quality education (training):

  • All employees are encouraged to develop both horizontally and vertically within the company (internal promotion policy and job rotation).
  • Annual accounting of the number of hours of "soft skills" training and relative increase target.
  • Various partnerships each year with schools and universities for company internships and doctoral theses.

4. Gender equality & reduced inequalities:

  • Equal opportunities recognised within BSCA and commitment to achieving gender parity among employees. In 2020, 67.76% of BSCA employees were men and 32.24% were women, compared to 66.95% of men and 33.05% of women in 2021
  • 34 different nationalities are represented among the staff without any known concern for inclusiveness.
  • Respect for the right to freely profess one's religion in a peaceful manner at work
