Budapest

Capital of Hungary, Budapest is cut in two by the Danube. Its 19th century Széchenyi lánchíd bridge (“bridge of chains”) connects hilly Buda with flat Pest. A funicular railway connects the Vár (“castle”) neighbourhood and the old town of Buda, where the Budapest History Museum tells the city’s story from Roman times up until the present day. Trinity Square is home to the 13th century Matthias Church, and the Fisherman’s Bastion, whose towers offer uninterrupted views of the city
